Last Nights T.V.

Last Nights T.V.

Although i wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of t.v., now and again a programme comes along that completely takes over my life. It makes me forget to go to the toilet, makes me forget to eat, even makes me forget to make sweet love to my woman. One of these programmes in particular is CSI Miami. Last night saw the opening episode of the new series of Miami, following on the story that ended the last series. Horation and Delko were strutting their stuff in Brazil hot on the trail of Riaz, a Brazilian drug dealer who killed Delko's Sister/Horatio's wife!

I won't go into the story or what happened etc. i just wanted to make a few points on the "Shades of Justice!"

First off, CSI Miami is easily the best of all the CSI's. I think that it's not only down to the characters being better scripted and having more depth to them, but the colours make the programme so watchable and warm, its hard not to want to go and live in Miami after watching it!

Then there's Horatio, or an aging Botox'd David Carusso, which ever you want to see him as. Now, while i don't think Carusso's an upper echelon actor, i can't imagine anyone playing the part of Horatio better. Everything from the side ways stance, the beady little eyes that always seem to look everywhere except the person he's speaking to and of course the "Shades of Justice" are just perfect in making the character who he is.

Where Grisham (CSI Vegas) is a methodical robot who will go days without food or sleep to find the killer, Horatio's angle is more of compassion and sensitivity. The new series has seemed to of kept pretty much the same formula as the last one, why fix it if it's not broke? The quick, chopping scene changes are still there, along with the sprawling overview of Miami or Brazil as it was last night . Delko's hair has gone slightly more buffon and Horation seems to have gained a few extra pounds, but apart from that it was like CSI Miami had never been off my screen!

It could have done more to piece together the story and at times i was left thinking, "well how did he know he was there" and "What happened between this and that", amazingly both Horatio and Delko seemed to have developed physic abilities over the season break!

Anyway, I'm just glad to see the Ginger peril back on my screen and the 15 second drum roll to bridge the opening scene into the classic theme music "Won't get fooled again" gave me goosebumps! Long live the "Shades of Justice"!!

Anyway, check out the the opening scene.......

Jim Carrey doing a wicked Horatio impression.....

So, after CSI finished, I'm flicking through the rest of the mindless shite that appears on our t.v. screens and debating whether to have a wank, go to bed or roll another doobie (I ended up doing all 3 as it happens!) i came across a piece of cinematic masterclass that was being shown on ITV4, that film was THE SHINING!!!

Shit a brick, i had completely forgotten how fucking good this movie was. I remember watching it when i was about 10 and it scared me so much, that it affected my ability to stay in Hotels for ever!

The thing is, whilst i was watching it again last night, i was probably more scared than i was 20 years ago! After de-constructing every scene for its angles, colors music etc. i realized that as a youngster, i didn't quite absorb these factors like an Adult does and this is what makes it just as scary each time you watch it.

Jack Nickelson and Stanley Kubric are both at their staggeringly, amazingly brilliant bests and i truly believe that there is not a better, more disturbing horror than this. Just check out the trailer, even that shits me up....

There are so many good bits from the film, i can't possible pick the best ones. Here's a good analysis breakdown of the film that someone with a better education than me has done....

In my opinion, every single scene, line, colour and musical note is perfectly designed to scare the living shit out of you. Its one of the most uncomfortable, psychologically disturbing pieces of film that I've ever seen, pure genius!

I could spend the whole day analysing this film and posting clips etc. But all i ask that if you don't have this film in your collection, then buy it now!!! I'm going to end with the following clip which in my opinion is my favorite. Its not the famous scene that we all know and love, but i hope ya'll like it anyway....

For me, Jack's acting here is second to none. Its impossible to script or pre-meditate all of the little hand and eyebrow movements that make this scene so special. Acting at its best.

Anyway, on a finishing note, someone at work said today that apparently some cock face people somewhere are going to do a remake of this timeless masterpiece!
Can i just say for the record "PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THIS FILM. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE THE SHINING ANY BETTER THAN IT IS, IMPOSSIBLE, DON'T EVEN FUCKING TRY, YOU WILL JUST EMBARRASS YOURSELF AND OFFEND ME AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO CHERISH'S THIS MOVIE!"

THANK YOU!

Child Genius

If anyone watched that programme the other night about that kid who could play the piano, i didn't know weather laugh or cry!?!? Laugh at the fact that his case proved that the majority of human beings are being dummed down and not taught nearly enough, or cry at the fact that his control freak of a mother has pretty much stopped any chance of that kid having anything close to a social life. Anyway, here's a short list of some other child genius'....

BOBBY FISCHER

Bobby Fischer was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1943. He had learnt to play chess by the tender age of six and by January 1958 he had won the U.S. Championship making him the youngest person ever to do so. Fischer tried for the world championships at just 17 years old and lost in the final to his so to be chess Nemesis Boris Spassky. Know for his stubbornness and refusal to play by the rules, Fischer was fast becoming the bad boy of Chess. In 1972 he eventually won the World championship, defeating Boris Spassky. Fischer's win was a momentous victory for the United States during the time of the Cold War: the iconoclastic American almost single-handily defeating the mighty Soviet chess establishment that had dominated world chess for the past quarter-century.

A brief tribute to Mr. Fischer....

It all went a Pete tong for 'ol Bobby after that. He was arrested after being mistaken for an armed robber and was apparently tortured at the hands of police. Subsequent radio rants against Jews and US government officials and another arrest at a Japanese airport for a dodgy passport have put Bobby firmly in the Tormented genius bracket......

Here he is again, now looking like a homeless person....

Bobby Fischer had a reported I.Q. of a 184 and also had an incredible retentive memory. Rather bizarrely, Mr Fischer was also immortalized by rap group "Dilated Peoples" in their Eminem dis track titled "The Search for Bobby Fischer".

Right, a list of future releases on various different media that i'm pissing my pants with excitement about;

TRANSFORMERS THE MOVIE, release date:

I have waited my entire life for this film! Ever since seeing the cartoon movie and series back in the 80's, my mind boggled at the though of this ever becoming a full feature film. Well, those kind people at Dreamworks have granted my wish and made a movie for what special effects were designed for! Early reports have said that this film is an absolute hit and has received standing ovations in theatres!

Check out the trailer and tell me this doesn't look sick?

And for all you nostalgia heads out there, a clip from the original!

ASSASSINS CREED, Xbox 360, release date:

This is what the 360 was made for! This has to be the best looking game ever! Assassins creed is set over different periods in history and takes actual events (namely assinations!) and recreates them in the xbox world! This game is said to usher in a new generation in gaming as EVERYTHING is interactive. I don't think i've seen a better looking game so far and initial reviews have marked this game out for stardom!

It will be released on the PS3 as well as other formats, but i'm thinking the 360 Will be the one!
This is an interview with the director of the game (she's pretty hot!)talking about the development of the game.

Never mind GTA 4, this is the game of the future!

Being a mad MMA fan, when i heard that the UFC had bought PRIDE the prospect of dream match ups and champion Vs Champion fights came one step closer. Then, know one heard anything for a while, like what was happening with the 2 companies joining etc. Then came the announcement that my Boy "Rampage" Jackson (UFC Light Heavy weight Champ!)will be fighting Dan Henderson (Pride Middleweight & Light heavy weight Champ!) in LONDON of all places. RIOTS!!!!!!

"The last resort of kings, the cannonball. The last resort of the people, the paving stone."
- Victor Hugo

There have been many a riot throughout our turbulant history, so here is a couple of the more well know riots of our time;

Paris Riots, Paris, France

In November 2005 the french saw the worst riots in 40 years after 2 police officers were accused of "accidentally" electrocuting 2 youths who were hiding from them. Civil unrest spread all across France and on November 8th a state of emergancy was declared.

The riot streched to over 250 towns, over 8000 vehicles were destroyed, caused 200 million euros worth of damage (Shit!), 2888 arrest, 126 police & firefighters were injured and 1 death.

The riots also lead to one of the best foreign films ever "La Haine"

The prime minister at the time Jacques Chirac, ordered his whole cabinet to watch the film in order for them to gain a better understanding of Youth culture in France.....Something tells me in didn't quite work!

LA RIOTS aka RODNEY KING RIOTS, Los Angeles, USA

Probably the worst place to be if you were white policeman or just white in general, was Los Angeles in April 1992. After 4 police officers were filmed and subsequently aquitted of beating the shit out of Rodney king, the African american community got a bit mad! What followed was one of the worst racially motivated riots in history.

The riots lasted 6 days and in that time saw Lootings, Burnings, beatings of local store owners (mostly Korean) and a number of deaths. The best documented count of the dead may be the April 24 2002, "The L.A. 53", by Jim Crogan.
Using coroner's reports, police records and interviews, he documented 53 people and how they died.
"Gunfire killed 35, including eight people shot by law enforcement and two by National Guardsmen. Six died in arson fires. Attackers used sticks or boards to kill two others. Stabbings killed two. Six died in car accidents; two in hit-and-runs. One was strangled.
The violence crossed racial and ethnic lines. The dead included 25 African-Americans, 16 Latinos, eight Caucasians, two Asians, one Algerian, and one Indian or Middle Easterner. Men outnumbered women, 48 to 5."

Thursday, 21 June 2007

After watching a documentary on the one and only Mr. Dirk Diggler, i started thinking about other parts of the body that were some what out of proportion to the rest of us. So here is my list of weird and wonderful parts of the body that really "Stand Out!"

WORLDS LONGEST LEG HAIR

This dude seriously needs a wax!

Tim Stinton from Box Hill, Australia has a hair growing on his left thigh that measures a whopping 4.88 Inches (12.4cm!)

A spokesperson for Tim said that he is currently still growing the hair and would like to be able to use it a a dog leash!

WORLD LONGEST TONGUE

Calm down Ladies! Mr. Steven Taylor hailing from Milan Italy is recorded to have the worlds longest tongue. From the Tip of the tongue to the centre of his top closed lip, Stevos lizard licker measures 3.74 Inches!!

Steve can not only touch his nose with his tongue but he can also comb his eyebrows with it as well as clean his own ears! Amazing!

LONGEST EAR HAIR

This is the winner in my opinion!?! Radhakant Bajpai from India has been growing his ear hair since he was born. The lengh at the last time of measuring was an enormus 13.2 cm (5.19 in) at its longest point sprouting from the centre of his outer ears. THe picture had me laughing for at least 15 minutes!

BRILLIANT!
